Free NAMI Peer-to-Peer Education Course offered April 20 – June 29

Dear NAMI Members, Friends and Supporters — we want to let you know that we have postponed the NAMI Peer to Peer class, scheduled to start next Monday, April 20. In past we have never cancelled or postponed, and we have had large groups and small, but we know this class is more meaningful with a group of at least 6 - 8 participants.

This class offers many valuable activities such as preparing a health care advance directive, making a solid plan for wellness that will stand up to challenges and triggers, and creating for oneself a climate of support with others.  It takes tremendous courage to get the class for 10 weeks, once a week.  if you are someone who wants this support and learning, or if you know someone who would benefit, please call at the number below.

We have people who signed up and more who are now on the list.  We encourage sign-ups by anyone who is living with mental illness and who wants peer and mentor support as they work through the challenges of making solid plans for living well and getting more from their lives. call NAMI Amador at 223-1485, X266 leave your contact information and state interest in Peer to Peer.  your call will be returned in about 48 hours.

FREE NAMI Peer-to-Peer Education Course—Monday, April 20 – June 29, 2015

One of NAMI’s Signature programs, Peer to Peer, a 10-week educational program to enhance mental health recovery, begins Monday April 20, 1:00 to 3:00PM at First 5 Amador, 975 Broadway in Jackson.

This program is for individuals living with mental illness and is taught by NAMI-trained mentors who are well along in recovery. Goals are to provide education about mental illness, emotional and practical support, independent problem solving and relapse prevention.

This is the eighth time NAMI Amador has been able to offer the program, so many people have benefitted from learning that recovery is possible. The course is taught by two experienced mentors (teachers). The workbooks that every participant is given are new and updated this year with the latest information on mental illness research, treatment and strategies for self-management.

As with all services of NAMI Amador, the course is free to the public. Mental Health Services Act funding is provided by Amador County Behavioral Health Department. All class sessions are  confidential.

Each week builds upon the last, offering a variety of tools with which to better understand and manage one’s individual life. Thus, attendance is expected at each session. Contact 223-1485, X266 to learn more or to leave a message to sign up.

NAMI Amador is Amador County’s chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and is a volunteer non-profit public charity serving people with mental illness, their families and other loved ones. More information is available at

Use Hypnosis to Make a Good Change - Classes in March, May and June

Are you curious about Hypnotherapy? Then come to a one time, 1.5 hour relaxing and informative workshop in Pine Grove with Certified Hypnotherapist Cherie River Maitland. There is a flyer below with dates and info.

Have you ever decided to make a positive change and made some good choices and then after a few hours days, weeks...went right back to your old behavior, even though you knew better and didn't really want to keep doing the same old thing?

The neat thing about hypnotic work is that, when you move into that inwardly focused relaxed state, your subconscious mind is more open to new suggestions of behavior. Getting in touch with the subconscious mind through guided relaxation helps you go to the source of your old habits, experiences, beliefs about yourself etc and make changes at this deeper level.

Come experience a relaxing guided hypnotic journey. Participate at whatever level you are comfortable. Ask questions and learn more from Certified Hypnotherapist since 1992, Cherie Maitland.
