Sutter Medical Foundation Amador Pediatrics Office Launches Fluoride Varnish Program

JACKSON, Calif. – Sutter Medical Foundation Amador Pediatrics Office, in cooperation with Sutter Medical Group, received a grant to purchase topical fluoride that will be offered to infants and children from the onset of their tooth on or after their six-month birthday.
Fluoride strengthens the enamel on the teeth. The fluoride varnish is a coating that can be painted on the teeth to prevent tooth decay. The varnish tastes good and doesn’t take long to apply. It is especially important for children in Amador County to receive this varnish due to the lack of any fluoride in the county’s drinking water.
It is recommended that children receive this varnish four times a year from their pediatrician or dentist. Children can receive the varnish during their regular physical until their sixth birthday.
“We are seeing a lot of tooth decay in our patients,” said Dr. Aye Moe, a Sutter Medical Group pediatrician. “Tooth decay is one of the most chronic problems in children. It can affect their speech and eating. Children can get infections from cavities and by offering this varnish, we are hoping to prevent any long-term issues in just one visit.”
The visit to the pediatrics office for the fluoride varnish does not replace a regular visit to the dentist. Children should establish care with a dentist and make regular visits for checkups.
In addition to Dr. Moe, Sutter Amador Pediatrics office features physicians David Stone, M.D., and Amy Appleton, M.D., and Nurse Practitioner Denise Lack, Ph.D. – who are excited to care for your children. The office, located at 100 Mission Blvd., is now accepting new patients. To make an appointment, call 209-257-1722.

Jackson Creek Dental Group Opens Office for “Smiles for Kids 2015” in January

Appointments will be scheduled in advance on a first-come-first-served basis beginning January 12, 2015

Jackson, CA - Jackson Creek Dental Group will once again be hosting Smile for Kids to treat children, at no cost, who “fall between the cracks” in healthcare – children who would not otherwise receive dental treatment – on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Because of the overwhelming number of children attending this event appointments will be scheduled in advance starting Monday, January 12th , 2015. These appointments will be filled on a first-come-first served basis by calling Jackson Creek Dental Group at (209) 223-2712. Once the schedule is full they will no longer accept additional patients.

To qualify for treatment, children must be 2-18 years of age, qualify for free or reduced fee school lunches, WIC or CHDP, be a resident of Amador County, and they must not be covered by private dental insurance or Medi-Cal/Denti-Cal. A parent or legal guardian must accompany the child throughout the appointment.

The doctors and their staff have provided this service to the community on a volunteer basis for the past 30 years. Smiles for Kids also offers an opportunity to educate both the child and parent about how the effects of poor oral health extend far beyond problems in the mouth, often generating other related health problems.

“Children who meet the program requirements may receive, at no cost, a complete dental exam and x-rays, as needed,” stated Craig Kinzer, DDS at Jackson Creek Dental Group. “We will also provide a teeth cleaning, fluoride treatment and prescription, sealants, orthodontic evaluations, and other emergency dental care as time allows. The dental staff and volunteers who participate in Smiles for Kids feel very fortunate to be able to give back to the community on this special day.”

“Every child deserves a healthy smile,” quoted Dwight Simpson, DDS at Jackson Creek Dental Group. “Tooth decay is the #1 chronic childhood disease in America and is largely preventable. Untreated dental disease is very painful and affects a child’s physical, emotional and social development. This Smiles for Kids event is one way we can become part of the solution and help give the children in our community healthy smiles for life.”

Crucial follow-up treatment may be provided through the Sacramento District Dental Society’s Adopt-a-Child Orthodontic and Specialty Referral Care Programs. Several local dentists will also be providing these services right here in Amador County as part of the Adopt-a-Child Program. Children requiring Orthodontic and Specialty Referral Care follow-up appointments may be assigned to a specialist to receive necessary endodontic, periodontic, pediatric, orthodontic and oral surgery treatments.

Jackson Creek Dental Group offers a full range of advanced, comprehensive dental specialties, from general care, periodontal care, dental implants and orthodontics to cosmetic dentistry, smile design and full mouth reconstruction. For more information contact us at (209) 223-2712 or visit our website at

Jackson Creek Dental Group is open Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

In addition, making sure they all have access to needed follow-up treatment is an essential part of this program.

Sutter Amador Hospital Launches New Orthopedic Program

Program will create long-term solution to meet community’s needs and expand access.
Jackson, Calif. – Sutter Amador Hospital launched a new orthopedic program as a way to continuously improve care for patients and enhance the services it provides within the community. Surgical Affiliates Management Group, a medical group that also provides emergency surgery care at Sutter Amador Hospital, is now providing orthopedic care coverage for patients coming to the Emergency Department, along with post-operative care in the Sutter Amador Outpatient Services Center.
“The orthopedic program is a great partnership that will help create a long-term, sustainable approach for meeting orthopedic surgery needs in our community and ensure consistent coverage for our patients needing emergency orthopedic care,” said Sutter Amador Hospital CEO Anne Platt.
Last year, Surgical Affiliates began providing general surgical support 24/7 for patients who come into the hospital with emergency surgical needs. With this consistent, around-the-clock coverage, the goal of Surgical Affiliates is that every patient has access at Sutter Amador Hospital to the same level of high quality surgical services no matter when they need them. With the addition of the orthopedic surgical program, orthopedic surgeons will also be available 24/7 for patients with broken bones or other orthopedic injuries.
“The orthopedic surgical program will complement our acute care general surgical collaboration with Sutter Amador Hospital,” said Surgical Affiliates’ CEO Dr. Leon J. Owens. “Our model is based on leadership from expert surgeons and executives, building outstanding surgical teams that follow evidence based guidelines in care delivery, and collaboration with the hospital staff to consistently improve patient care and safety. What’s more, because the Surgical Affiliates team is available 24/7, a highly skilled team is available at all times for patients in need.”
The physician leadership team developing this new program includes Gregory Graves, M.D., Medical Director of Sutter Amador Hospital’s Surgery Department and Regional Medical Director of Oncology Services in the Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region, and Lynette Scherer, M.D., Surgical Affiliates’ Chief Medical Officer who will be working with Surgical Affiliates and local orthopedic surgeons as they build this high quality, patient-centered orthopedic program.  In support of the orthopedic service, Surgical Affiliates has recruited two additional experienced orthopedists to its local group.
