Fitness For You Program begins Mon Oct 7

FITNESS FOR YOU is an innovative 8-week personalized fitness program that meets in a small supportive group with a Certified Fitness Trainer at Team Fitness in Pine Grove! This program is geared to women age 40 and up.

The next Fitness For You Program begins Monday October 7 at 5:15pm and meets for an hour every week for 8 weeks. Cost is $88 and you do not have to be a member to join the fun. Members receive 10% off.

Program includes a weekly aerobic and strength training workout at your own level, suggestions for fat-loss, and support for each step on your journey. Incorporate some great fun workouts and get support to keep active during the holidays too.

Family to Family is the most important class for family members, close friends, caretakers of individuals living with mental illness.  It is now shown to be effective in reducing stress and improving coping skills and well-being for those who complete the course. Participants gain knowledge, learn the latest research and receive support as well as hope for the future. They also leave with a huge binder of information and resources to keep. All of this is FREE - supported by Mental Health Services Act funds through Amador County Behavioral Health.

Sutter Amador Hospital Welcomes General Surgeon Arnold Serota, MD

JACKSON, Calif. – Sutter Amador Hospital is pleased to announce the arrival of board-certified general surgeon, Arnold Serota, M.D. F.A.C.S. Dr. Serota has been a general surgeon for more than 27 years. He recently joined the Sutter Amador Hospital medical staff and is on-call to quickly respond to the Emergency Department. He has an elective general surgery practice in the Sutter Amador Outpatient Services Center at 100 Mission Boulevard, Suite B116 in Jackson where he also holds postoperative clinic to ensure his patients are properly healing.

After earning his medical degree from the University of Illinois at the Medical Center in Chicago, Dr. Serota completed his residency at the University of Illinois Hospitals/Cook County in Chicago. He also completed a fellowship in surgical infectious diseases at VA Wadsworth Medical Center/UCLA Hospitals, Los Angeles and a second fellowship in transplantation at Cincinnati Medical Center, Ohio. 

Prior to his arrival in Jackson, Dr. Serota was a member of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in Honolulu, Hawaii. Before arriving in Hawaii, he was in private practice in Phoenix, Arizona where he specialized in transplantation, vascular and general surgery and surgical infectious disease. While in Phoenix, Dr. Serota was named one of Phoenix’s Best Doctors in Phoenix Magazine three times.

“My philosophy has always been to treat patients like you’d want your family treated,” said Dr. Serota. “I am happy to be in Amador County and consider it a privilege to care for patients in this community in that same way.”

During his spare time, Dr. Serota enjoys gardening, photography and fishing. He and his wife, Angela, have two children – Lauren and Nathan.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Amador)
The Amador County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Amador) is holding an affiliate meeting and support group on Tuesday, August 27th in the Multiconference Room at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.  The guest speaker for the meeting will be Christa Thompson, MHSA, Program Manager at the Amador County Behavioral Health Department.  From 6:45 to 8:00 pm we will conduct a confidential Support Group for family members and caregivers of those with mental illnesses.  For information call NAMI Amador (at ATCAA) 209-223-1485 Ex. 266.

Sutter Health Offers Local Non-Profits Sponsorships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region invites local non-profit organizations throughout Amador, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Solano, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties to apply for community relations investments (sponsorships) beginning today, Aug. 1, that improve access to health and wellness programs.

Sponsorship applications will be available now through Sept. 30. This application period will provide sponsorship funds for January – May 2014 or for organizations requesting year-long sponsorships. 
Those who are interested in applying for sponsorships may visit and follow the instructions. In addition to filling out an application, those seeking sponsorships are requested to watch a webinar that provides information about the Sutter Heath Sacramento Sierra Region, its community relations funding priorities, funding requirements, and answers to frequently asked questions. Applications and additional questions may be submitted to Sponsorship proposals will be reviewed and awardees will be notified by email. 

The sponsorship process helps the Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region identify areas of specific need in our communities. By partnering with local organizations through sponsorships, Sutter Health is able to provide funding to help support the services and resources that address those needs.
