Win 5 Free Sessions! Coaching For Success - Changing a Habit

When we decide to lose weight or stop smoking or change some other habit, we can feel really gung-ho in the beginning. This can last sometimes only a few days or so and there we are eating high calorie snacks late at night, reaching for that cigarette when we were determined not to, or blowing off the gym because we are too tired. You are not alone - so many of us find it hard to change sometimes what can be a lifelong habit.

Cherie Maitland - Life Coach, Stop Smoking Educator, Certified Personal Fitness Trainer and Soon to be Certified in Sports Nutrition (some of you know her as people and dog trainer) will coach you and support you to make realistic and gradual changes at your own pace. Think about what motivates you and what you can keep reminding yourself of
the reasons to make this extra effort.

Cherie will help you make a plan to get from here to there. . . And to make changes along the way as well as encouraging you when you feel overwhelmed. Together you will identify what works for you and what you are willing to change. Perhaps you know yourself well enough to know that you will not exercise on your own, unless someone else is expecting you - so one of your actions will be to set up times to meet a friend to go for a walk. Or perhaps you are stopping smoking and know that for now one of your triggers to picking up a cigarette is going out for an evening with drinks - so for a short time, maybe you pick different activities.

Support from friends, community and oftentimes a coach can make the difference between success and failure. For more info visit:

Find A Coach . . .
Someone you like and trust. . . with experience professionally helping people as well as someone who has been down in the trenches - someone who has perhaps struggled with their weight, stopping smoking and more. Cherie Maitland has been helping people change habits - including lose weight and stop smoking since 1992. How about giving her a call or send an email and discuss what you want to do and what would be helpful to you.

If you decide to proceed after that - sessions are $45 each or $199 for 5 sessions (payment plan is available) - which works out to just under $40 per session. You can meet with Cherie in Pine Grove or Diamond Springs. Pine Grove clients who sign up for 5 sessions, also receive a free month at
Team Fitness - A Comfortable Place to Get in Shape. Telecoaching is also available and Cherie has had success with phone sessions - especially after at least one face-to-face appointment.

Keep it Simple
From www.ZenHabits.net
"Habit change is not that complicated. While the tips below (see link) will seem overwhelming, there’s really only a few things you need to know. Everything else is just helping these to become reality.

The simple steps of habit change:

1. Write down your plan.
       2. Identify your triggers and replacement habits.
       3. Focus on doing the replacement habits every single time the triggers happen, for about 30 days.

That’s it. We’ll talk more about each of these steps, and much more, in the cheatsheet below."

NAMI Family to Family Education Class on Mental Illness - Sat May 4 thru Sat June 8

Dear NAMI Friends, Members and Information Recipients -

Saturday May 4, 9AM - 2:30PM,  begins the six weeks of the NAMI Family to Family class, available only one time a year.   This intensive course is appropriate for family members, caretakers and close friends of people living with mental illness.  It offers the latest in mental illness research and treatments, the most current information on medications, lots of practice with skills to help families be more helpful in working with their loved ones and doctors, and information on advocacy.

This is the first time NAMI has allowed the course to be taught in six, rather than 12 weeks by teaching two classes per Saturday.  The course has been shown to significantly improve coping skills and confidence level of those who complete the course.

We're excited about this chance to offer the course FREE to Amador County, thanks to funding by Amador County Behavioral Health Dept.  Please encourage people to contact  Kelly Trottier or Janet Caton to sign up (contact information on attached flyer.)

Beginning May 1, accommodations are in place for Patricia Sullivan, FNP, to see patients at the Sutter Plymouth Health Center. Patient letters were sent April 16, informing them of the temporary change.
We will work closely with the Care Center management to support the transition and to assist in the recruitment process.

NAMI Educational Series: Peer-to-Peer Recovery Education / Family-to-Family Education - Classes in April and May

Dear NAMI Amador Members, Friends and Information Recipients -- We are very fortunate to have two new volunteers who are helping NAMI Amador communicate our mission and activities so much more effectively.  Please go to our brand new Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/namiamador.

Thanks to one talented and creative local volunteer we are now able to communicate to a much larger audience.  Please like us, and ask your Facebook friends to like us too!

This is our new way to give information about mental illness and mental health, to list classes and events such as the Northern California NAMI Walk on April 27 in William Land Park in Sacramento.  (We have two teams that together raised $6000 last year and are trying to reach that goal this year.)  Or if you aren't on Facebook, see www.namiwalks.org/northerncalifornia.

Our other volunteer is a graduate of Sonoma State who is interested in working in mental health and presently working part time with juveniles.  She is writing press releases for us, and learning more about NAMI.  She's definitely making our press releases more interesting!  We've included a new press release on our upcoming NAMI Education classes.
