FREE Mental Health and Wellness Class Offered by NAMI Amador
Class begins Monday, April 15, 2013 – 1:00 PM
Join the Journey to Wellness with NAMI Amador, an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) We offer an innovative Peer-to-Peer Recovery and Education Program to Amador County. The program is a 10-week course designed for persons working on mental health recovery. The free course will be taught by Peer-to-Peer mentors Lois Johnson, Michael Eslinger, assisted by Teresa Painter, trained and certified to instruct the peer-to-peer recovery process.
Students will receive a certificate of completion for attendance. Peer-to-Peer is a Signature program of NAMI National that updates and maintains the integrity of the course. Support is from the Mental Health Services Act through Amador County Behavioral Health.
All materials are provided for students and classes will share information regarding depression, anxiety, psychosis, bipolar disorder, obsessive/compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, each class offers a wealth of skills for stress reduction and relapse prevention, such as relaxation exercises, strategies for supportive (non-judgmental) speaking and listening, opportunities for personal storytelling and mutual support, self-advocacy within an environment of social stigma. Students will also prepare a health care advance directive and learn relapse prevention skills.
Each week builds upon the last, offering a variety of tools with which to better understand and manage an individual life. Attendance expected for each session.

NAMI offers a free support group called Connection, offering a flexible and casual environment without an educational format. No registration or enrollment obligation is required.
