Team Fitness: Stretch Classes offered

STRETCHING - I don't really take enough time to do this wonderful activity to help my aging body feel better and move more easily through the world. Want to get more in the habit!

Won't you join me - Cherie - or Lynda and Laura for one or more of our 40-minute STRETCH classes. You don't have to be a member. In fact you can buy a pass of 10 classes for $35 or if you are a member of another gym for only $28.

VETERAN’S COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVES – Monday, April 8 from 11AM-6PM at the American Legion Hall on Airport Dr. and Hwy 49 and Tuesday, April 9 from 2PM-6PM at Evalynn Bishop Hall, 600 S. Church St. and Hwy 24 in Ione.
Walk-ins welcome. Donors must weight at least 110 lbs, be 17 yrs old or older, and in good health. Bring a photo ID, and drink plenty of fluids before donating.

Extended hours begin April 1st!  The pool will remain open until close each evening (Monday-Thursday 10pm), and gym hours will expand to 9pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

Evening “Deep Water” Group Exercise Returns!  Join Instructor, Debbie Hansen, Monday & Wednesday at 5:30 pm for a low impact, total body water workout utilizing the aqua jogger floatation belts.  Enjoy full range of motion fitness with less impact and stress on joints, as well as all muscles active and engaged!

Saturday 50/50 H20 will begin at 9:30 am starting April 6thGet up, get moving, and get your workout in with more time to enjoy the rest of your weekend activities.  Kelly, Debbie, Natalie and Ildi will share the instruction to keep you challenged and motiviated with a different workout plan each week.

FREE Mental Health and Wellness Class Offered by NAMI Amador
Class begins Monday, April 15, 2013 – 1:00 PM

Join the Journey to Wellness with NAMI Amador, an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) We offer an innovative Peer-to-Peer Recovery and Education Program to Amador County. The program is a 10-week course designed for persons working on mental health recovery. The free course will be taught by Peer-to-Peer mentors Lois Johnson, Michael Eslinger, assisted by Teresa Painter, trained and certified to instruct the peer-to-peer recovery process.

Students will receive a certificate of completion for attendance. Peer-to-Peer is a Signature program of NAMI National that updates and maintains the integrity of the course. Support is from the Mental Health Services Act through Amador County Behavioral Health.

All materials are provided for students and classes will share information regarding depression, anxiety, psychosis, bipolar disorder, obsessive/compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, each class offers a wealth of skills for stress reduction and relapse prevention, such as relaxation exercises, strategies for supportive (non-judgmental) speaking and listening, opportunities for personal storytelling and mutual support, self-advocacy within an environment of social stigma. Students will also prepare a health care advance directive and learn relapse prevention skills.

Each week builds upon the last, offering a variety of tools with which to better understand and manage an individual life. Attendance expected for each session.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Amador) - Tues Mar 26

The Amador County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Amador) is holding an affiliate meeting and support group on Tuesday, March 26th in the Multi- conference Room at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Jim Foley LCSW, the Director of Health and Human Services at Amador County Behavioral Health will be the guest speaker. From 6:45 to 8:00 pm we will conduct a confidential Support Group for family members and caregivers of those with mental illnesses.

Courage to Start - Determination to Finish . . 5K Training for Beginners Starts March 6

For those who missed Sue's great presentation on Saturday called "From Couch to Trail" and who want to get some guidance on getting ready for the walk or walk/run combo plan, I will be offering a class including ideas and exercises for preparing for ACRA's Bypass 5K (3.1 miles) event - including strength training exercises. This class will be geared to those just starting out and who want to walk or also add in some running.
