Holistic Health and Wellness Fair Showcases Complementary Health Option

The 9th annual Amador County Holistic Health and Wellness Fair will take place on Saturday, January 26, sponsored by Motherlode Holistic Wellness Center of Jackson. The event will be from 11 am to 4 pm at the Amador Senior Center in Jackson, at 229 New York Ranch Road. It is a free event, open to the public, with a myriad of vendors representing complementary health resources and healthy lifestyle choices.

According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, a branch of the National Institutes of Health, “[m]any Americans use complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in pursuit of health and well-being. The 2007 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), which included a comprehensive survey of CAM use by Americans, showed that approximately 38 percent of adults use CAM.” Interest in these new and ancient therapies continues to grow, as people look for natural, non-invasive ways to promote health and healing.

The foundation for the Amador County Holistic Health and Wellness Fair is to provide the community an opportunity to experience natural approaches to health by showcasing vendors who specialize in a wide array of complementary health and wellness disciplines. In addition to supporting holistic health and wellness practitioners and products, the Amador County Holistic Health and Wellness Fair is committed to a healthy community, with green lifestyle choices such as eating locally, converting to solar, and recycling. The fair highlights the many choices we have available in our community to take responsibility for our health care choices, to live life joyfully and with care for our community and world.

There will be speakers and demonstrations throughout the day, information booths, and product sales.
Kneading Dough Bakery of Volcano will be offering a delicious and simple lunch of warm soup and baked goods at a great price.

Jackson Creek Dental Group Opens Office for “Smiles for Kids 2013”

Appointments will be scheduled in advance on a first-come-first-served basis beginning January 14, 2013

Jackson, CA - Jackson Creek Dental Group will once again open their office to treat children, at no cost, who “fall between the cracks” in healthcare – children who would not otherwise receive dental treatment – on Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Because of the overwhelming number of children attending this event we will schedule appointments in advance starting January 14th, 2013. These appointments will be filled on a first-come-first served basis by calling our office at (209) 223-2712. When the appointment blocks are full we will no longer accept patients.

The doctors and their staff have provided this service to the community on a volunteer basis for the past 28 years. This is an opportunity to educate both the child and parent about how the effects of poor oral health extend far beyond problems in the mouth, often generating other related health problems.

To qualify for treatment, children must be 2-18 years of age, qualify for free or reduced fee school lunches, WIC or CHDP, be a resident of Amador County, and they must not be covered by private dental insurance, Denti-Cal or Healthy Families (transitioning to Denti-Cal). A parent or legal guardian must accompany the child throughout the appointment.

“Children who meet the program requirements may receive, at no cost, a complete dental exam and x-rays, as needed,” stated Ron Ask, DDS and founder of Jackson Creek Dental Group. “We will also provide teeth cleaning, fluoride treatment and prescriptions, sealants, orthodontic evaluations, and other emergency treatment as time allows. Our staff and volunteers are honored to be able to give back to the community and make an impact one family at a time.”

Oral health is integral to our overall health. Untreated dental disease is very painful and affects a child’s physical, emotional and social development. Tooth decay is the #1 chronic childhood disease in America and is largely preventable. This Smiles for Kids event is one way we can become part of the solution, and together provide oral health education and give kids a smile at the same time.

“We believe that every child deserves a healthy smile, and this is a day dedicated to dental treatment, education, advocacy and prevention,” said Craig Kinzer, DDS at Jackson Creek Dental Group.

“Smiles for Kids is a very rewarding time for our staff and volunteers as we join together with others to help draw awareness to the issues of poor oral health and access to dental care within our county. Together we can all make a difference and give the children in our community smiles for life.”

Crucial follow-up treatment may be provided through the Sacramento District Dental Society’s Adopt-a-Child Orthodontic and Specialty Referral Care Programs. Several Amador County dentists will also be providing these services as part of the Adopt-a-Child Program. Children requiring

Orthodontic and Specialty Referral Care follow-up appointments may be assigned to a specialist to receive necessary endodontic, periodontic, pediatric, orthodontic and oral surgery treatments. Jackson Creek Dental Group offers a full range of advanced, comprehensive dental specialties, from general care, periodontal care, and orthodontics to cosmetic dentistry, smile design and full mouth reconstruction.

For more information contact us at (209) 223-2712 or visit our website at: www.JacksonCreekDental.com.

Jackson Creek Dental Group is open Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Friday,

7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
