Amador County Public Health: Tdap Tuesday for Uninsured Teens Before School


Sutter Creek, CA – Uninsured incoming 7th grade students will have one more chance to receive the state-required Tdap booster at Amador County Public Health before school starts. Tdap protects against whooping cough (pertussis), a serious and highly contagious disease. The booster is available at Public Health vaccination clinics on the first and third Tuesdays each month. The last clinic before school begins will be held on August 7th from 2:00 to 5:30 pm at the Health and Human Services Building in Sutter Creek.


Teens who will be entering the 7th to 12th grades this fall need to meet the California state requirement of getting immunized against whooping cough with a Tdap shot before starting school. Students in this age group who received their booster last year are already in compliance with this State law. Immunizations for eligible children are $10 at Public Health clinics, but immunization is free if cost is an obstacle.

Recently the State of California changed the Public Health clinic immunization guidelines limiting the availability to those without insurance. Amador residents with insurance should contact their medical provider for an appointment. The Tdap booster may also be available at some local pharmacies.

“Immunity from childhood vaccines can gradually decrease over time, exposing a child to serious preventable diseases that could easily spread to others in the family, school, and community,” said Dr. Bob Hartmann, Amador County Public Health Officer.

Several important vaccines are recommended for preteens and teens including Tdap, the meningococcal vaccine and the HPV vaccine series. Everyone older than six months old is recommended to receive a seasonal flu vaccine.

Visit our fitness studio in Pine Grove as many times as possible and rack up time, miles, reps or more in one or multiple events. Wed 7/25 to Sat 8/11. A great way to get exercise for a low amount of money. $5/event or total of $20 for unlimited events for the two and a half week period. Divisions for men and women and 4 different age categories too. Most of our folks who are currently enjoying Team Fitness are over 50! So no matter what age you are or shape you are in - come join the fun!

From Walk Live: Jackson Walk Live Classes

Hello Walkers!
It’s official!  We WILL be offering a 4 week session of our Walk “LIVE” classes in Jackson at the Margaret Dalton Children’s Center! I am really excited and so looking forward to working out with all of you.
   The upcoming session will begin the week after next. The current Tuesday & Thursday 5:15 pm schedule will remain.
The new session schedule is as follows:

The cost will be $40.00 (8 classes at $5.00 per class) for the 4 week session. Or “Walk-In’s” are always welcome at $7.00 per class.

Information you should know for this upcoming week:
·         Tuesday we will begin taking signups & payment for the 4 week session. Remember, if you are one of the first 10 to sign up, you will receive a FREE Resistance Band! (If you have already purchased a band and are one of the first 10 – you can choose to receive another band OR have that credit toward your class tuition).
·         Please SIGN IN as you enter class each day. This is very important for my book-keeping. I keep track of everyone’s attendance days and your miles!
·         We will be drawing our winners for the FREE raffle prizes this Thursday (19th), so please make sure you enter the drawing when you sign in!  One entry per person, per class.
